Drought in Aiken County Downgraded to Moderate
Aiken County drought eased from severe to moderate for the first time in five months after rainfall totaling 9 to 14.85 inches over 60 days. State climatologist Hope Mizzell cited soil and water district input and 60 day rainfall as factors and noted broader coastal and Pee Dee regions also shifted, with some counties remaining incipient or at moderate. The committee will monitor conditions and reconvene in early December or sooner if needed.
