Confederate Battle of Aiken memorial erected near Aiken
The Battle of Aiken reenactment group has set up a Confederate monument on its land near Aiken. Officials say the project is not a protest against calls to remove such statues, noting funds were raised over years to honor Confederate soldiers from the 1865 battle. Construction began in late June and the monument was placed about a month ago.
