Hitchcock Foundation balances recreation and preservation at Hitchcock Woods
Dr. Dacre Stoker outlines the twofold mission of the Hitchcock Foundation to serve Aiken residents and protect Hitchcock Woods since 1969. The group leverages a conservation easement via Heritage Trust to keep the woods natural and prevent development. Stoker notes controlled burns reduce fuel load and compares unmanaged land to a tinderbox, with burns performed on set days for 50 acres each. The Aiken Kiwanis Club meets Thursdays at 1 pm at Houndslake Country Club.
