USC Lab Accident Burns Two Men at University
A doctoral student and an assistant suffered severe burns in a biology lab incident at the University of South Carolina. County Sits on Pay Plan Nest Egg in Budget
Aiken County Council halved a proposed pay increase for 500 plus workers leaving about 400000 unencumbered dollars in the Fiscal 1996 budget. County Administrator William Shepherd said the funds can only be used for pay raises or reallocated with budget amendments. The council’s action yielded raises for about 653 employees averaging 919 dollars annually, instead of the planned 1758 dollars for 503 workers.
