Aiken County high schools posted higher SAT averages than the state mean though South Carolina trailed the national average. The state composite was 1436 while Aiken County's was 1445, with individual schools ranging from 1431 at North Augusta to 1494 at South Aiken and 1276 at Wagener Valley.

Terry Macy, 68, known as Project VISION's go to person for wheelchair ramps, has built about 150 ramps since 2003. A retiree from Woodside Plantation, he moved to Aiken in 2002 and volunteers through United Way of Aiken County. Project VISION offers free home repairs to disabled, elderly, and low income residents. Tammy Davis cites Macy as a heart driven contributor.
