Sonic boom from Atlantis landing rattles Aiken residents
Dozens phoned public safety and seismologists after space shuttle Atlantis landed at Kennedy Space Center. Cap. Pete Frommer of Aiken DPS said over 20 calls reported a loud boom misattributed to an earthquake. Seismologist Don Stevenson noted a sonic signature as Atlantis slowed to subsonic flight near Cape Canaveral.

The new concealed weapons law has been well received in Aiken with over 600 permit applications and about 300 fingerprintings reported by the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office. Lucid Shuttle Lands safely in Florida after record flight
Astronaut Shannon Lucid returned to Earth aboard Atlantis after an 188 day mission, the longest spaceflight by a woman or an American. The landing at Kennedy Space Center featured NASA officials and a welcome by President Clinton’s box of M M s and a personal letter.
