The College of Charleston received an ABC beer permit allowing limited service in the Student Center during specified hours. The permit arrived amid a past dispute over funding, but County Council pledged to maintain its allocation for the current year.
The California Supreme Court ordered a new trial for Mr and Mrs Robert Edwards of Riverside County after ruling their privacy was invaded by a police trash can search based on a neighbor’s tip in the 1967 marijuana and LSD possession case.
The 181 member Communist Central Committee met in Prague Castle to remove officials tainted by the reform era under Alexander Dubcek. The gathering warned of high level purges and trials as blame for the 1968 Soviet invasion surfaced, threatening Dubcek’s political standing.
Rep. Claude Pepper warned at a Faneuil Hall hearing that Congress is not prepared to vote the vast sums required to curb crime. He urged the nation to recognize the danger of inaction as funds are needed for corrections upgrades, drug suppression, organized crime, and faster court action.
