SRS Preps for Possible Furloughs Amid Budget Delays
Savannah River Site officials map two furlough scenarios as Oct 1 start of fiscal year 2016 nears. If no budget or CR passes, contractors may halt discretionary cleanup and place workers on furlough. 2013 saw 1,400 furloughs at Savannah River Remediation and 270 at Centerra. DOE seeks bids for Savannah River Site liquid waste contract
The Department of Energy invites capability statements from interested contractors for the SRS liquid waste contract now held by Savannah River Remediation. The project covers storage treatment stabilization disposal tank waste removal and tank closures including Saltstone facility operations and involves a potential new competitive bidding process with an industry day the week of Oct 12. The current SRR deal runs through June 30 2017 and covers more than 37 million gallons of high level radioactive waste.
