Aiken's Makin' Festival Returns to City Streets
The Greater Aiken Chamber of Commerce hosts the fifth Aiken's Makin' arts festival this Friday and Saturday. Expect 176 exhibitors, crafts like knifemaking woodcrafts and jewelry, 17 industries in the Municipal Auditorium, live entertainment along Laurens Street, and assorted plants and baked goods. Council to Review Budget and Waste Measures

Two Aiken Teens Arrested in Wagener Bank Robbery Conspiracy

Salley Votes On Bond For Community Center Plan
Salley residents will vote tomorrow on a $25,000 low interest loan from Farmers Home Administration to buy and repair five Crescent City School buildings and 15 acres. If rejected, the town would borrow from a bank at 15 to 17 percent. Voting runs 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Town Hall.

Helmich Spy Trial Begins In Florida
Former U S Army officer Joseph G Helmich stands trial in Jacksonville on charges of selling top secret information to the Soviet Union. Aiken Standard Praised With 1981 ACS Media Award
The Aiken Standard won the 1981 Outstanding Media Award from the South Carolina Division of the American Cancer Society at a Columbia brunch.
