Kennedy Middle names Margo Gore Teacher of the Year

Aiken County officials named Kennedy Middle School seventh grade science teacher Margo Gore as the district Teacher of the Year at a Monday night banquet. Gore arrived at school greeted by Principal Garen Cofer and Assistant Principal Darlene Jackson, receiving hugs and praise from faculty and students. Maureen King, Gore’s friend and Student Council adviser, praised her dedication to hands on programs and support for colleagues. Gore, who previously worked for the county government and earned a degree at USC Aiken, was celebrated by students who described her as sweet and a favorite in the building.

County sets new deadline to impose cell tower rules

Aiken County Council delayed enforcing stricter wireless rules until November 1 clearing the way for Aiken Electric Cooperative to seek approval for 17 towers at 115 feet each at 17 substations. Cingular Wireless had a permit for a 150 foot Whiskey Road tower before readings. Aiken Electric filed papers after the public hearing.

CDC study finds low cancer risk from Cold War radiation

A CDC study of Savannah River Site residents finds unlikely cancer risk from radiation exposure. The 1992–2005 analysis shows those born in 1955 faced higher doses than later births, yet overall cancer risk remains below 1 percent, with fish consumption raising internal doses.
