Supreme Court bars race based districts in several states
In South Carolina districts there were changes to the maps with two new majority black districts in Richland and Aiken counties. In Georgia five white voters argued their 11th Congressional District was drawn to elect a black representative, spanning from Atlanta to the coast. Justice opinions condemned voter segregation as heinous as segregation of schools or beaches and urged lawmakers to consider the erosion of gains over decades. Georgia Rep Tyrone Brooks warned the ruling could overturn civil rights progress. Black residents 260 miles apart share concerns over civil rights and funding for Medicare Medicaid and tuition.
