Residents reported possible explosive devices in a car on Silver Bluff Road prompting evacuations between Whiskey Road and Hitchcock Parkway. Aiken Public Safety Director Pete Frommer said authorities called SLED but the threat proved unfounded and no explosives were found.
Tennessee Attorney General is investigating reports of used tires from the Firestone recall being sold to customers who trade them for free replacements. Bridgestone Firestone says the resale endangers public safety while dealers acknowledge offering cheap used tires, with one Seattle dealer admitting the mistake.
A Brookhaven Drive elder care operation faced licensing violations in June and September, leading to arrests of owners Clifford Ranson and his sons for running an unlicensed facility. DHEC cited improper care including a knife used on a patient, and ordered temporary suspensions after the arrests. A log cabin behind the house was also found operating without a license with fines totaling 10,000 dollars.
An unannounced DHEC visit to Ranson Community Care Home in Aiken on September 8 2000 found eight female residents with no staff. Residents said Jared Ranson left that day and Clifford Ranson the administrator administered meds then left. The log house next door was unlicensed and the door was locked.
