Aiken Board Sets Facilities Meeting Agenda
The Aiken County Board of Education will meet Tuesday at Midland Valley High School to discuss a five year facilities plan. Public comment is not allowed at this meeting. input will be invited at later sessions. The plan initially estimated 48.93 million for renovations and construction with 22.74 million potential funding and a 26.19 million funding gap. Some members urged moving Aiken High School projects up the list.

Contel Phone Rates Set To Go Up Again
Continental Telephone will raise basic rates about 15 percent in October bills after the South Carolina Public Service Commission approved the increase. Contel serves Jackson and residential customers will pay about $2 more per month for basic service. The rise should add roughly $367,500 in new revenue, about $143,000 less than requested, and follows a prior 1982 rate hike of $700,000.

Man Arrested On Drug Charge
A 22 year old man was arrested by Aiken Public Safety on two counts of unlawful drugs open container violation and gross intoxication. Michael Cleve Greene faced possession of cocaine and simple marijuana charges and was jailed in Aiken County. Early Saturday a man was found passed out in a vehicle near Holley Inn on Richland Avenue and searched leading to the charges.
