SLED certifies gun instructors in Aiken area

The State Law Enforcement Division has authorized only two concealed weapons instructors in Aiken as citizens flood in for training. Terry Carter of Security of Aiken and Hap Pitcher of New Ellenton Police Department are certified and report strong demand from a wide range of residents. Instructors must meet NRA or SLED standards, be active or recently trained with handgun instruction, and develop an eight hour course covering use of force, statutes, safety, and safe storage. Applicants must pass written and live-fire tests and submit curriculum for approval.

Charges filed against teacher after bus incident

Aiken Department reports a 9 year old student was on a North Aiken Elementary School bus when a teacher allegedly squeezed the boy's shoulders and struck him on the face after three cousins pushed him from his seat. The student sustained a sprain and bruise.
