Aiken resident recounts 9/11 memories at Ellis Island talk
Vincent DiPietro, a former National Park Service employee at the Statue of Liberty National Monument, spoke to VFW Post 5877 members about his experiences on 9/11. He described the sudden chaos, triage setup on Ellis Island, and the impact on his family, including his parents who later died of lung cancer. He urged recording oral histories using modern cellphones and compared the World Trade Center site to a Nazi concentration camp site for its lasting symbolism.
