McMaster and Sellers Set Debate For October 16
South Carolina Lieutenant Governor candidates Henry McMaster and Bakari Sellers agreed to a debate hosted by South Carolina Educational Television on October 16. McMaster, 67, former GOP chairman, led a June four-way Republican primary victory. Sellers, 29, serves Denmark district and had no primary. They offered contrasts in policy and style. Sellers urged McMaster to renounce his 30-year membership in a historically all-white country club. McMaster defended the club and said he would not join if it discriminated.

Port congestion grows as ships await at gates
U S DOT maritime administrator Paul Jaenichen said port congestion is a growing problem at terminals across the United States. Speaking during a visit to the South Carolina Ports Authority he announced an 11 million dollar grant to upgrade a local terminal for bigger ships and noted future growth will stress rail and trucking networks as population climbs toward 400 million by 2050 and cargo moves rise by about 14 billion tons.
