Big to Pass Up A Proposition for Aiken Theatre
Aiken considers a major plan to build a modern picture theatre in the business district, funded by local capital and operated by Publix, to rival larger regional houses. The old opera house is inadequate, but a monopoly-like arrangement is requested, with the old venue not to compete. The city would gain long term rent and potential revenue if the plan proceeds.

Aiken Council Divides Over Park Widening Plan
Citizens protest a Richland Avenue widening between Laurens and Newberry Streets. J R Seiley urged preserving the park with telegraphs from winter residents. Alderman Duches and others pressed for traffic enforcement instead of park destruction. The council approved moving back the curb into the park by up to ten feet, amid Civic League objections and calls to beautify instead.
