Wilmington Elks lodge fined in video poker case
The Wilmington Elks Lodge No. 532 on Oleander Drive was fined 100000 dollars for conspiring to run an illegal video poker operation. It also forfeited 500000 dollars under a plea deal. The lodge pleaded guilty in February to operating the illegal gambling scheme and faced related charges against Garrett family members.

Pendleton Teen Shot After High School Football Fight
A 19 year old Pendleton man was fatally shot after a postgame fight at a Pendleton High School football game. Anthony Haygood tried to intervene. Kevin Lamar Gibson allegedly drew a gun and struck Haygood in the chest before fleeing in a maroon Ford LTD. Haygood died later at Anderson Area Medical Center.

Palmetto Bluff seeks state title to 5500 acres of marshes
Crescent Resources and Palmetto Bluff owners sue South Carolina to claim ownership of about 5500 acres of marshes and tidelands along the New and May rivers. The suits argue historic king's and state grants from the 1700s and 1800s. The firm says it has no plan to develop the marsh areas while pursuing full title to protect them.
