U S Senator Strom Thurmond will receive a special lifetime legislative achievement award from the Non-Commissioned Officers Association at a Capitol Hill reception on September 19. The honor reflects his 30 years in the Senate and efforts to improve benefits for enlisted servicemen veterans and families, with Thurmond noted as Edgefield native and WWII Army veteran who served on D Day and earned the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.
