A Vermont Air National Guard F 16 photo showing a Green Mountain Boy on its tail amid the World Trade Center ruins became a powerful symbol of reassurance for Vermonters and many others after the 9/11 attacks. Lt Col Barent Rogers learned of the image when front pages featured it later in September.
