A Fort Jackson unit presents a concert tonight at 6 30 on the Performing Arts Stage at Hopeland Gardens. Attendees are advised to bring a lawn chair or blanket. The event kicks off a series of free concerts sponsored by the City of Aiken Parks and Recreation Department. Those interested in performing should call Lisa J Hall at 642 7648.
Hootie and the Blowfish will become the youngest inductees in the South Carolina Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame this week. The Columbia based band behind Cracked Rear View will be officially inducted on Wednesday during a return concert in Columbia. Also to be inducted are Larry Fridie Joe Meador Carl Grant and David Godbold in the hall of fame ceremony.
A large sinkhole along U S 278 near Spanish Wells Road on Hilton Head Island widened by rising tides. Officials blame a leaking pipe and tides for the washout causing traffic diversions and road work to inspect and repair earth beneath the northbound lanes.

Grady Herron’s Hampton Avenue shop, a 49 year family staple, and an adjacent unoccupied house were destroyed by a blaze early Saturday. Herron suspects arson, noting two separate ignition points. Fire department said flames had already breached the roof when responders arrived and could not enter the structure.
