Republicans Aim for Governor Office in 1970 South Carolina
Columbia GOP Chairman Ray Harris says the key 1970 effort is winning the governor's seat, with a push to also capture the lieutenant governor post and three other state wide offices. He expects to defend the Second District seat in Congress and possibly add up to four more. Harris rejects anti Republican rhetoric and argues party strength supports good government, noting Democrats trend liberal and courting Negro support. He outlines a 600 of 1,600 precincts organized with 500 swing precincts to build toward primaries, stressing legal clubs and convention decisions on primaries.
