Courts Clear DUI Backlog in South Carolina

Courts across South Carolina cleared more than 11,000 backlogged drunken driving cases at the request of Chief Justice Jean Toal. The moves disposed of over half the DUI backlog in four months, though a leading victims’ advocate said the numbers are not cause for celebration. Some cases dated back more than a decade as state troopers complained delays kept them in courtrooms and off the highways.
