Central Texas wildfire devastates Bastrop area homes
The 33 000 acre Bastrop fire in Central Texas burned about 45 square miles near Bastrop, east of Austin, killing two people and destroying nearly 800 homes. Crews reached about 30 percent containment amid wind shifts and continued efforts by Texas Task Force to search debris and secure affected properties. Gov. Perry traveled to California for a GOP debate as authorities mobilized state and local resources to combat the disaster.
