Patrick Brooks funeral set for St Thaddeus in Aiken

Funeral services for Patrick Clyde Brooks will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St Thaddeus Episcopal Church Aiken with burial in the church cemetery. Brooks, a decorated Army veteran and CPA, died Sept 5 2003 in Aiken. He leaves a wife Deborah two daughters Piper and Hilary, a brother Clark, and other relatives. Memorials suggested to Make A Wish Foundation New Hope pool restoration or St Thaddeus Organ Fund.

Mildred Thompson Artist Dies at 68 in Atlanta

Mildred Jean Thompson an Atlanta artist known for vibrant abstract paintings died Sept 1 of cancer at 68. Her works are in MoMA and the Smithsonian. A pioneering black woman in European abstract expressionism she also sculpted and printed. Thompson lived in Atlanta since 1985 and taught at Spelman College.
