Amazing Grace Inspires Mystery and Reconciliation Across Genres
George W. Cornell reports on how Amazing Grace blends unlikely histories from enslaved origins to civil rights. Figures like Jessye Norman, Johnny Cash, Judy Collins, and Bill Moyers describe its power, while the hymn’s creator John Newton is noted for complex shifts from slave trader to minister and abolition advocate.
