Mrs. Knowles and her guide dog Crystal will demonstrate dog guides for the blind at the Aiken Health Fair held at the H Odell Weeks Activities Center Saturday at 2 p.m. The event educates the public about leader dogs and how they assist the visually impaired.

The Aiken Community Hospital Health Fair runs Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at H. Odell Weeks Activities Center Whiskey Road with 80 booths from 64 groups. A 10 km Whiskey Road Race begins at 9:30 a.m. Saturday with 350 to 400 runners. street closures apply. A parachutist lands at 11 a.m. Saturday and a med-evac helicopter visits Fort Jackson. EMS and law enforcement will patrol. Events include rescue equipment demos by Aiken County Rescue Squad and performances by USC-Aiken Pacers Gym, Lioness Nancy Knowles and her leader dog Crystal. Heart Unit will run a concession. Organizers Elise Early and J Franklin Bradley anticipate large turnout and parking issues. don’t park in nearby centers.

Three More File For School Board

Three more candidates filed for the Aiken County Board of Education elections. Abelle P. Nivens of Graniteville and E W Clamp of Salley join the at large Seat 6 race, and Johnny A. Shaw of North Augusta will run for Seat 2. Mrs Nivens retired from teaching in June and aims to establish remedial instruction through twelfth grade with a master in Child Development and further Columba University study.
