Palestinian hijackers surrender after Cyprus safe conduct
Three Palestinian hijackers release 80 hostages aboard a Dutch airliner in Larnaca after accepting safe passage to a country of their choice. The plane was forced to divert from Nice to Tunis then Larnaca, with two Americans among 75 passengers. Negotiations lasted about four hours as Israeli jets shadowed the aircraft. A Libyan embassy official accompanied the hijackers to Nicosia. The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine denied involvement.
