Expanding Nuclear Industry Sought By GOP Leader

Washington AP veteran Republican congressman Rep. Craig Hosmer urged creation of a United States Enrichment Corporation to take over and expand the government monopoly on uranium enrichment. He said a new agency could prevent a nuclear fuel gap after 1984 and push US and foreign sales to $56 billion yearly, outlining a plan modeled after the Tennessee Valley Authority and noting current enrichment comes from three AEC plants at Oak Ridge, Portsmouth, and Paducah. He also described gas centrifuge as a cheaper method than gaseous diffusion.
