Western Wildfires Wreak Havoc Across Seven States

Fires burned 682 square miles across California Idaho Montana Oregon Wyoming Arizona and Washington consuming 437000 acres of tinder dry brush and timber destroying at least 42 homes injuring over 50 people and threatening timberlands. Seven SRP Firefighters Deployed to California Blazes

Seven Forest Service crews from Savannah River Plant were sent to California to help combat forest fires. They join about 20 000 other firefighters and are expected to stay three weeks. Unemployment steady as payrolls rise in August

U S unemployment stays at 6 percent as the Labor Department reports 354,000 more Americans working in August bringing total employed to 113 million. Jobless numbers fall slightly to 7.221 million while the labor force expands about 350,000.
