Allende Widow Appeals to Kidnappers for Release
Hortensia Bussi de Allende urged the kidnapers of Mexican President Luis Echeverria's father in law to release the abducted 83 year old Jose Guadalupe Zano Hernandez unharmed. She spoke on television recalling Salvador Allende's 1972 Guadalajara speech and his stance against terrorism. The widow has lived in Mexico since her husband’s death last September after a military coup.

Labor Day Highway Death Toll Falls Again
The Associated Press reports 483 people died in highway accidents during the Labor Day period, aided by cold rainy weather. The National Safety Council had estimated 450 to 550 fatalities, its lowest Labor Day forecast in over a decade, citing the 55 mph national speed limit. East German Ties to be Formalized in State Department Ceremony

Elderly Woman Aids Capture of Prison Escapee in Boise
Boise police captured 38 year old Dillard J. Haggard three weeks after he escaped on a bicycle. An 82 year old woman chased him from her kitchen and another pushed him from her yard. Enrollment surge eyed as USCA Aiken plans three year program
