Federal move ends Wyoming wolf protections backed by plan
The US Fish and Wildlife Service ends protections for Wyoming wolves, allowing shooting on sight in most areas while maintaining safeguards in key zones. About 270 wolves roam outside Yellowstone, with around 1,100 in Montana and Idaho. Wyoming requires at least 10 breeding pairs and 100 individuals under its plan, with protected status kept in Yellowstone Grand Teton areas, the Rockefeller Parkway, and Wind River Reservation.
