Suspect in critical condition after siege ends

An armed man barricaded himself in a home on US 78 near Mont Morenci and Windsor for nearly five hours Tuesday after a domestic dispute. He fired at deputies and was shot dead by police. 51 year old Richard Durwood Chapman was wounded and hospitalized in critical condition. SWAT, armored units, and a robot assisted as traffic around Hathaway Bridge Road was detoured.

County schools push SAT gains across district

Wagener-Salley High School led Aiken County with an 80 point SAT improvement while Silver Bluff and Ridge Spring Monetta also posted gains. Midland Valley fell 33 points and North Augusta and Aiken dipped. The district average held at 979 with the state at 951 and national norm 1017.
