Khadafy Threatens To Attack U.S. Gulf of Sidra Nukes
Libyan leader Muammar Khadafy warned the Mediterranean states that a renewed U.S. challenge to his Gulf of Sidra claim would trigger an attack on nuclear depots in those countries. He spoke on the eve of Libya's 12th anniversary of overthrowing King Idris and declared resolve to defend the gulf, even at oil price costs. Diplomatic estimates list Libya’s oil revenues at 4 to 5 billion in late 1981, with price leadership at 40 dollars per barrel amid an oil glut.
