Preliminary hearing held for two Jackson armed robbery suspects
Two Jackson men, Dominique Alvin Howard Jr. and Jimmy Ashley Jr., faced preliminary hearings on four kidnapping counts, two armed robbery charges, and weapon counts for two Dollar General robberies in Beech Island. Prosecutors presented physical evidence and an eyewitness. defense sought dismissal for lack of probable cause. Both men are held without bond with next court date undecided.

Southern Studies Showcase Returns to Edgefield with Lectures
The fifth annual Southern Studies Showcase will take place September 16 and 17 in Edgefield hosted by the Old Edgefield District Genealogical Society and the Edgefield Civic League. Lectures cover Bloody Bill Cunningham, the Cloud's Creek Massacre, the Hamburg Massacre, Dave Drake pottery, and historic-structure dating plus genealogy. Wayne O Bry ant and Justin Guy will speak. A block party at Edgefield Courthouse Square runs Sept 16 from 6 30 to 8 30 p m with a Southern dinner and music. Registration starts Sept 16 9 a m at Tompkins Memorial Library.
