Restoring Wis. Apostle Islands lighthouses to 100 year lifespans
The National Park Service funds a 3.5 million project to restore five lighthouses in the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore. Ken Keniny of KBK Services notes mold rot and bat damage at Michigan Island Lighthouse while Raspberry Island Light Station restoration previously occurred in 2005 07. The lakeshore hosts eight lights on six islands attracting 175000 visitors and over 20 million in tourism spending annually. Bayfield Chamber touts the region as part of its identity.
