Lawmaker seeks safe haven expansion for older children
South Carolina Rep. Chip Limehouse proposes extending Daniel's Law to allow parents to abandon children up to 5 years old without penalty. The plan would add social services offices and extend safe locations beyond hospitals and police or fire stations. The measure aims to provide a pressure valve amid child welfare crises linked to past cases.
