Aiken board member pushes Midland Valley closure
An Aiken County Board of Education member proposed closing Midland Valley Preparatory Academy, but the motion died for lack of a second. Larry Murphy claimed the charter school had no valid board, while the school and its attorney argued a new seven member board was seated in August and that resignations never occurred. The sheriff’s office is investigating alleged fiscal mismanagement by Lilian Thomas, who denies the charges, and school officials say closure next year remains possible but not the board’s intent.
