State orders new election for Bobby Harrell's seat
South Carolina election officials ordered a special GOP primary to replace former House Speaker Bobby Harrell on the ballot after his guilty plea to campaign finance violations and resignation. The plan calls for a later special general election, possibly December 9, as the Supreme Court weighs the decision. Harrell's name stays on Tuesday's ballot but will not count, nor will around 1,000 absentee votes. Democratic candidate Mary Tinkler seeks prompt court review to overturn the order and permit the general election to proceed.
