The Citizens for Nuclear Technology Awareness invites members to hear Dr. Thomas Burns, vice president and director of engineering for Parsons Salt Waste Processing Facility, speak at the Up and Atom Breakfast. Burns oversees a 250 plus technical staff designing the facility to treat nuclear salt waste at the Savannah River Site. The 7:30 a.m. Nov. 5 talk at Newberry Hall includes a $15 reservation.

Woman targeted by scam seeks loan from CashSameDay in Reno
A Monetta woman paid about 725 dollars to CashSameDay.com while pursuing a loan. Sheriff’s investigators could not reach the Reno company, and the case adds to local scam reports. Separately, a 24 year old Atlanta man was ordered to stop contacting an Aiken woman after stalking allegations and threatening calls connected to a mall meeting. The suspect denied ongoing contact and noted a misinterpreted flirtation.

Aiken youth detained after school incident at middle school
A 13 year old girl was detained after striking a male student at Aiken Middle School and creating a commotion outside. She was released to her grandmother. Separate reports note a man shoplifted three pairs of jeans at Aiken Mall and a laptop was stolen from a Marion Street home. Additional notices include a lawn mower and two chain saws stolen on Ergle Street and a burglary on Cary Drive in Beech Island.

Tractor Trailer Fire Cleared On I-20 Near Granville
Fire crews extinguished a tractor trailer blaze on I-20 in the westbound lanes between mile markers 13 and 14 near Granville on Wednesday morning. The cab was fully involved at one point but no injuries were reported and the truck carried no hazardous materials. Westbound lanes were shut briefly as responders contained the incident.
