Aiken Tour Draws 700 Plus for Plantation Event

More than 700 visitors toured Aiken on Sunday for the South Carolina Historical Society's Fall Plantation Tour. The self guided event featured old plantation homes churches and Winter Colony residences including Chinaberry Zahara and Ridgeley Hall with guides discussing heritage and architecture. Visitors hailed gracious hosting and noted attendees from multiple states. Rita Burgess greeted guests at Chinaberry as she and her daughters described 1824 wallpaper and the home’s history.

Hodges faces lottery fees forum debuts on TV and radio

Redcliffe Mansion Said to House Friendly Ghosts in Beech Island

Redcliffe State Historic Site in Beech Island, built in 1859 by Gov. James Henry Hammond, is rumored to be haunted by four generations who lived there. Casey Connell, park interpreter, says the ghosts are friendly and the mansion has endured wars and upheaval while remaining preserved.

Setzler faces GOP Lefemine and Prince in District 26 race

Incumbent Sen. Nikki Setzler of West Columbia, first elected in 1976, seeks a fifth term in District 26 as Gary Prince and Steve Lefemine challenge. Setzler touts education expertise and chairmanship of the Senate Education Committee while Lefemine emphasizes anti abortion, school privatization, and curbing property taxes. Prince, a Republican, did not respond to a survey.
