The Oakland Athletics secured a swift 9 to 6 win to sweep the World Series in four games. Mike Moore pitched effectively while Rickey Henderson supplied the offensive punch to seal the series.

He warned the cease-fire could not hold amid rebel attacks and announced a formal decision on extending the truce.
Fans spent about 1.5 million dollars in 34 hours on 47 500 tickets for the Rolling Stones Clemson University concert set for November 26. Ticket sales in Columbia used a lottery while Greenville Spartanburg and Clemson sold first come first served.
A pedestrian bridge carrying up to 50 people collapsed into the Little Red River in Heber Springs Arkansas. Five killed eighteen hurt and one missing as crews searched wreckage and removed timbers with chainsaws and cranes. Names of victims include Jason Williams Dana Waltman David Shane Warren Catrina Cotrell and Gayla Carlton.
On sentencing day Jim Bakker entered federal court in a gray suit and left in an orange jumpsuit at a medium security Alabama prison. The PTL founder faced a 45 year term after U.S. District Judge ordered immediate imprisonment. Authorities note PTL revenues reached 129 million and 2000 employees in 1986 while the Bakkers owned multiple homes and luxury cars. Bakker and Tammy Faye had lived as Hollywood fixtures before the fall.
