Longtime Aiken nurse Hitt honored for service to veterans
Local historian lauds Hitt for caring for veterans at home and on trips from Augusta to Peru. She ran strict rules, helped reunite a soldier with his family, and earned awards including the Order of the Palmetto in 1990. Her home property was purchased by St. John’s Methodist Church for a future worship center and parking project funded by a $4 million capital campaign.
