The Aiken Standard will raise subscription rates to 4.90 per month starting Nov. 1, a one dollar rise. A Sunday edition began Oct. 6 and will cost 50 cents at racks. Prepaid one-year subscriptions at current rates accepted until Nov. 15 offer a free Sunday paper.
In Los Angeles AP reports retail gasoline prices edged up for the first time in 342 months while oil analyst Dan Lundberg says the cost to remove lead from gas has risen. Retail prices rose less than a fifth of a cent in two weeks and wholesale by 1.08 cents per gallon, signaling further retail increases as dealers pass along higher wholesale costs.
