Coast Guard plans to close helicopter station
Coast Guard moves to shut the Johns Island helicopter facility near Charleston ending its SAR support for the Savannah area. The Nov. 30 closure shifts a rotorcraft to Georgia and reduces local capability, prompting criticism from South Carolina officials and lawmakers who warn of longer response times and safety risks.
