Attorneys honored for Savannah River Site per diem fraud probe
Five attorneys from the South Carolina U S Attorney’s Office received the 2011 Award for Excellence in Investigations by the Council of the Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency. The team helped convict defendants and recover over 1.1 million dollars in fraudulent per diem claims tied to the Savannah River Site. The effort also involved DOE Savannah River Operations Office Chief Counsel Lucy Knowles and the DOE Office of Inspector General. Since 2009 the probe has led to three defendant convic tions and more than 700 thousand dollars of ACT funding recovered. The Aiken County real property valuation appeal deadline was extended to November 30 or 30 days after tax notices, with forms available from the Assessor’s Office or online. Oak Grove Road will be closed for about two weeks for storm pipe installation, with detours in place.
