Southside development next on agenda for task force review
The Comprehensive Plan Task Force will next review the southside after finishing downtown. An overlay district for Whiskey Road between Pine Log and Talatha Church roads is planned to add development restrictions. The group also urged the City Council to place a downtown master plan on the agenda and extended meetings to three hours in the evenings.

Aiken banks share $8 million in SC CD auction
Security Federal Savings Bank and Peoples Community Bank of S C earned a combined $8 million of the $75 million available in South Carolina certificates of deposit during this week's Treasurer’s Internet auction. Purity Federal also received the maximum $5 million. Security Federal won $2 million, $2 million and $1 million blocks. Peoples Community Bank won $1.5 million, $1 million and $500,000. The state plans $894,161.57 in interest from 75 bids in a 30 minute event with offers starting at 2.16 percent and topping 3 percent. Since July 2000 BidSC has added $550,000 in earnings.

Evolution guides downtown Aiken growth at Rotary meeting
