Aiken delegates push for tougher ethics reforms
Former South Carolina House Speaker Bobby Harrell pleaded guilty to six campaign finance violations and lost his seat. Prosecutors say he used campaign funds to pay for private flights, totaling 294000 untaxed dollars over three years starting in 2009. He faces a suspended six-year sentence with three years probation and must repay about 10000 to the state and 93000 to the general fund. Local Rep. Bill Taylor says the case underscores the need for stronger ethics reforms in South Carolina.
