Assisted Living Project Heads To Aiken City Council Vote

A proposal to build a 48 room assisted living facility at Richland Avenue and Gregg Avenue will be heard by the Aiken City Council Monday. The plan calls for 4.1 acres rezoning from R-1 to R-2 with 48 rooms now and 48 more later, facing opposition from residents who annexed in 1989 for zoning protection. The council will also consider raising commercial garbage fees from 1.54 to 1.65 per cubic yard to cover landfill costs, with no residential or non commercial impact, at 7 30 p m in the Municipal Center.

Deconsolidation on Agenda for School Trustees

Aiken County Board of Education trustees meet at 7 p m Tuesday at the district office to discuss deconsolidation, curriculum frameworks and grounds for permanent expulsion of students. Trustee Incase Williamson plans to press colleagues on the implications of breaking the district into smaller units while a fact finding mission is being pursued by the legislative delegation.

Wetlands At Schofield Offer Unique Learning Opportunity
