UN expert urges end to tax havens and world conference
Alfred de Zayas urged next U.N. secretary general Antonio Guterres to prioritize eliminating offshore secrecy jurisdictions. He cited estimates of up to 32 trillion dollars held offshore and warned governments lose 3 trillion annually to tax evasion and avoidance. A convention to outlaw tax havens was proposed.
